Important information

Heading to Malta? Add travel insurance to your list of things to think about, if you want to protect yourself from unexpected hiccups. Buying cover before you go will ensure you're not out of pocket if your luggage gets lost or you're suddenly ill.

Remember, most policies won’t cover you for known events, like pandemics, if they were declared before you bought your insurance. Always check your policy details, so you're prepared if something happens.

If the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) says “don’t go,” your insurance might not cover you if you decide to head to Malta anyway. Always keep an eye on the latest travel advice.

Good news! There's currently no restrictions for Malta. But always double-check the FCDO travel advice before you jet off.*

Having travel insurance means you’re not hit with unexpected costs if something happens during your holiday.

Choosing the right policy for your holiday to Malta

Single-trip travel insurance

Annual travel insurance

Are you planning to visit Malta and other destinations multiple times a year? An annual travel insurance policy covers all your trips, saving you the hassle of arranging cover each time you travel.

Family travel insurance

Planning a family holiday to Malta? A family travel insurance policy ensures everyone is covered under one policy.

To access state-level healthcare in Malta, you’ll need an EHIC or GHIC card. However, these cards won’t cover everything, like private healthcare or emergency repatriation. That’s why having travel insurance comes in handy. It ensures you’re fully protected against high costs in times of need.

Travel insurance for activities in Malta

Malta is perfect for outdoor adventures! You can dive into its famous shipwrecks, kayak along the beautiful coast, or swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Blue Lagoon.

Just make sure that the activities you have planned are covered in your standard travel insurance policy. If they're not, consider buying an add-on like activity travel insurance. This is an extra cost but it will ensure you have the cover that you need. If you're up for trying rock climbing in Gozo, you may need specialist rock climbing travel insurance.

When it comes to entry requirements, Malta is part of the Schengen zone, so you don’t need a visa if you’re travelling from the UK. You can stay in Malta and other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
