Halloween’s creeping closer, and so is half-term!

Whether you’re off on a spooky ghost hunt, braving a haunted forest, or just plotting a chilling retreat, one thing you won’t need to fear is your car insurance.

Temporary car insurance has got you covered, no jump scares here.

What is temporary car insurance?

Maybe you’re meeting friends for a Halloween party or have a whole host of errands to run while you have some spare time? Temporary car insurance can help you do this when you borrow a car from a mate or family member.

And don’t worry about spooking the car’s owner—it won’t affect their no-claims discount. So if you have a little bump in the night, they’re still covered. Phew!

Most comprehensive temporary car insurance policies include cover for:

  • Accidental damage to the car, and to other cars
  • Injury to another person following an accident
  • Third-party European cover or the equivalent level depending on what country you visit

Temporary cover provides drivers with an easy, flexible and fully comprehensive way of covering a car for any length of time, ranging from 1 hour to 28 days. It’s a no-brainer when you need to borrow a car for anything from airport runs to eerie road trips.

Why use temporary car insurance over half-term?

Half-term’s hectic, right? From witches on broomsticks to drivers trying to beat the traffic to get where they need to go. Whether it’s a last-minute trip or a spooky staycation, you might need to borrow a car. Don’t let yourself get haunted by invalid insurance or lack of coverage.

Here are some other spine-chilling situations that temporary car insurance can help you avoid:

  • Breaking down - Don’t get creeped out if your car stops working, even on a deserted road late at night. Temp car insurance can quickly help get you covered to drive another vehicle back to safety asap. You can then drive this vehicle while your car is brought back to life.
  • Not being insured to drive in an emergency - We all have those moments in life when we need to get somewhere quickly, even during a potential zombie apocalypse. One thing nobody wants is to get caught driving without insurance.. You may well need to get to the safety of a boarded-up hospital but the police will need to know you’re insured first…
  • Not having the correct insurance to drive another car - No amount of wizardry or witchcraft will stop a police officer giving you a penalty if caught driving without valid insurance. Don’t take the risk, even if you believe you can leave them spellbound. Temporary car insurance is fully comprehensive and easy to arrange to get you covered on another vehicle.

Whether sharing the driving on visits to the UK’s most haunted places or enjoying a not-so-spooky family staycation, temporary insurance can help you avoid so many frightening experiences.

Enjoy treats, not tricks this spooky season

Although we can never totally avoid the unexpected, temporary car insurance can take some of the pain out of dealing with a ghastly experience. It’s a flexible solution where you only pay for the time you need - from 1 hour up to 28 days.

There are a few requirements when it comes to drivers getting temporary cover. They must:

  • Not have been disqualified from driving or had a licence cancelled in the last 2 years
  • Have never been refused insurance or had a policy cancelled or voided
  • Have no criminal convictions or pending prosecutions
  • Have had no more than 7 penalty points on your licence in the last 3 years
  • Have had no more than 2 accidents, claims or losses in the last 3 years regardless of blame

The car also has some requirements:

  • The car must have a valid MOT (unless being used to attend a pre-booked MOT/not been declared as SORN)
  • The car has not been modified, unless to aid a disabled driver
  • There is valid car tax, unless the policy is being used to buy the car tax immediately afterwards
  • The car must be worth more than £1,500
