Who is AXA?

AXA is one of the UK's leading insurance companies - they're also one of the largest global insurers. With headquarters in Paris, AXA look after millions of people who need car, home, health and business insurance.

The company enjoyed rapid expansion in the second half of the 20th century through both organic growth and acquisitions to become one of France’s biggest insurers, with the AXA name emerging in the mid-1980s. AXA used the same strategy abroad during the 1990s and beyond, enabling it to fast become one of the world’s largest insurance groups.

AXA policy details

AXA offers two types of car insurance, AXA plus car insurance and AXA car insurance. With both of these options you can choose between comprehensive car insurance and third party fire and theft insurance.

Third party, fire and theft is one of the most basic levels of insurance and covers most things relating to a third party. For example, damage to other people, their cars, or property. Your car is also covered if it's damaged in a fire or stolen.

AXA's third party policy also covers your keys if they're lost, stolen or damaged. This sets it apart from most other insurers.

This type of policy doesn't cover your car or any injuries you get, but that's a standard part of third-party cover.

Every type of policy with AXA covers:

  • Theft and fire cover
  • Damage to other people's cars or property
  • Injury to other people
  • Lifetime guarantee on car repairs
  • 90 days European cover
  • Audio and sat navs cover
  • Child car seats cover

If you went for AXA's comprehensive car insurance, you'd be covered for:

AXA plus car insurance covers everything in the comprehensive policy, plus:

AXA optional extras

AXA offers optional extras that cover specific things. Some come as standard as part of the AXA plus policy. You might have to add these on if you're buying AXA's standard policy. Here are some optional extras that AXA offers:

  • Courtesy car cover: This is included with the AXA plus policy. It offers a courtesy car if yours is being repaired. You'd have to pay extra for this if you've got a standard policy.
  • No claims bonus protection: AXA protects your NCB if you have an accident that isn't your fault. It's also protected if you're hit by an uninsured driver if you didn't cause the accident.
  • Breakdown cover: AXA offers 4 levels of breakdown cover. The 24-hour rescue line is there to provide help if you need it. There's also an average wait of 60 minutes for local breakdown recovery.
  • Legal expenses cover: If you have an accident that wasn't your fault, AXA's legal expenses cover can help if you need to pay legal costs. You're insured for anything up to £100,000 in legal fees.
  • Personal injury and rehabilitation cover: If you get injured in your car, or you're injured by another driver, you can claim up to £100,000. This extra also covers rehabilitation with physios and chiropractors.
