Compare our best BT broadband, phone and TV deals

BT is the UK’s biggest telecoms provider – it was actually the country’s first telecom company back in the 1800s. Today it’s one of the ‘big four’ alongside Sky, Virgin Media and TalkTalk and offers home phone, TV and mobile services as well as broadband.

BT remains the most subscribed-to broadband provider, with around 10 million customers.

BT uses the Openreach network, which is owned by its umbrella company BT Group, to provide broadband services across the UK. Currently, you can get BT broadband deals covering ADSL, part-fibre and ultrafast full fibre. But exactly what broadband packages and speeds are available will depend on where you live.

Why choose BT broadband deals?

As one of Britain’s biggest broadband providers, there are a few things that make BT broadband packages stand out from the crowd:

  • Fast speeds: BT offers competitive speeds across its fibre packages. Its full fibre products are backed by its Stay Fast Guarantee, which gives you cash back if the promised internet speeds are not met.
  • Reliability: BT typically scores high for reliability in customer surveys. If something does go wrong, BT has UK and Ireland-based call centres.
  • Flexible TV bundles: BT works with its sister company EE to bundle its BT broadband packages with EE’s TV offering. This gives customers access to a range of sports and entertainment channels.
  • A high-quality router: BT’s Smart Hub router is included free with its packages. It features seven aerials to help spread Wi-Fi across your home and blocks signals from other routers for a more reliable connection. Some packages come with the Smart Hub2, which is even more advanced. Learn more about routers by reading our dedicated guide.
  • Lots of add-ons: You can tailor your BT broadband package to suit your needs. Options include Xbox Gaming Passes and Hybrid Connect, which backs up your Wi-Fi with EE’s 4G internet. So there is no need to worry about ever losing connectivity mid-movie or team video call!

Drawbacks of BT broadband deals

There are a few factors you should bear in mind when deciding whether BT broadband deals are right for you:

  • Lengthy contracts: BT broadband deals typically come with 24-month contracts, which is a lengthy commitment, particularly for students and other renters.
  • Slow upload speeds: Upload speeds determine how fast you can send data, and unless you’re on a full fibre package can be pretty slow. BT’s standard ADSL offers upload speeds of just 1Mbps, for example.
  • Limited full fibre availability: BT broadband’s top speeds are currently only available in around a quarter of UK homes, compared to over 50% for Virgin Media’s ultrafast cable network. However, there are plans to expand the Openreach full fibre network to 80% of homes by the end of 2026.

Types of broadband offered by BT

BT broadband deals include various speeds and price points. Costs can vary, with monthly costs starting from around £29.99. Average download speeds start at 36Mbps for Full Fibre Essential and go up to 900Mbps for Full Fibre 900. Many customers will find the BT Full Fibre 300 or Full Fibre 500 enough, which offer 300Mbps and 500Mbps respectively.

Most BT contracts are 24 months.

All the BT broadband deals can be bundled with TV packages from EE TV covering Sport, Entertainment or the Full Works. You can also add home phone services.

Does BT have good customer service?

According to industry regulator Ofcom's recent figures, BT had 9 complaints per 100,000 customers between January and March 2024. This is better than most other major broadband providers and below the average of 11 complaints per 100,000 customers.

In the Uswitch Broadband Customer Survey 2024, BT broadband received a score of 3.78 out of 5 for customer service. This is above rivals such as Sky, Vodafone, TalkTalk, NOW Broadband and Virgin Media. Overall, BT scored 3.98/5, with scores of 4 or above for internet speed, reliability, home equipment and installation. Its lowest score was 3.69/5 for value for money.

The broadband provider’s own stats show BT answered 100% of calls between October and December 2023, on average within 89 seconds.

If you do run into issues, BT’s website also offers a comprehensive and easy-to-navigate Help and Support section.

What speeds do BT broadband packages offer?

BT’s part-fibre broadband packages offer three speeds: 36Mbps, 50Mbps and 72Mbps. A range of full-fibre products are also available, offering average speeds of 100Mbps, 300Mbps, 500Mbps and 900Mbps.

It’s important to remember that advertised speeds are the average that at least 50% of customers can expect during the peak hours of 8pm to 10pm. The actual speeds you get may be higher or lower depending on your location, the time of day, your router, etc. BT’s data shows that between October and December 2023, its average broadband speed across all products was 149Mbps, with speeds getting faster every quarter.

BT offers a Stay Fast Guarantee for its full fibre broadband services. If your broadband drops below the guaranteed speed, you get £20 cashback. For the Full Fibre 900 package, the guaranteed speed is as high as 700Mbps.

What TV services does BT offer?

If you’re looking for BT broadband and TV deals, you can bundle up your BT broadband with a number of EE TV packages to save money. All come with a recordable TV box and access to free-to-air channels. All TV packages can be paired with any BT broadband deal.

Most BT TV packages have contract lengths of 24 months. BT broadband and TV deals start at around £16-£20 a month although offers can vary. For BT’s premium TV packages, expect to pay around £78 a month (prices and promotions vary).
